Pa Nformi Ngwang Amorow Feih spotted Mama Lucia Nonkfu while they lived in Binju- Nkambe, Donga- Mantung Division, Cameroon and decided she was the one she wanted for his wife. After marrying, they had their first son on February 10, 1958.They named him Oscar Lamako Amorow. After Oscar, the union produced five other children, including twins. One can only imagine what a lively household it was.
As a child playing with the other families in the neighborhood in Binju, Oscar was a typical boy. He played hard, played soccer and pulled his sisters’ hair and ran as fast as he could whenever he hit on an older boy. Popular throughout his years in Presbyterian School Nkambe, Cameroon Protestant College (CPC) Bali, Presbyterian Teachers Training College (PTTC) Batibo and PTTC Nyasoso, somewhere along the line, Oscar developed a cool, collected, mellow demeanor that became his signature persona.
Oscar developed a strong sense of self discipline and determination. This was demonstrated when he played for Donga-Mantung United- a second division team where he broke his leg during a soccer match. This kept him from writing his G.C.E Advanced Levels (‘A’ Levels) that year. But Oscar was determined to get his ‘A’ Levels. He enrolled again for the exam the following year and passed in the two papers he had entered for. He later enrolled in the University of Yaounde and obtained a degree in Private Law. His yearning for higher education led him to the USA for additional legal training in 1986. Oscar secured admission into Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey Newark, NJ. After a semester, he enrolled in the American University Washington College of Law and graduated with the degree of Master of Laws in International Legal studies in December 1988.
Elizabeth Yembong and Oscar were married and to this union two daughters borne, Yvonne Amorow and Patience Amorow. While this union ended in separation, Oscar and Elizabeth remained very close until his last breath of life. Two years ago, Oscar had a lovely baby boy, Jaden Mufor Feih Amorow. During his last days, Gwen spent sleepless nights by his side until our dear Oscar was no more.
As a young man, Oscar started his career at Presbyterian School Kamani-Misaje 38 years ago where he taught as Teacher Grade Two. He was later transferred to Government High School Nkambe and subsequently to the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications and was stationed in Yaounde, Cameroon. While in the USA, Oscar was admitted to practice as an attorney and counselor of law in the courts of Record in 1992. He was a member in good standing of the American Bar Association Section of Family Law; a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association. Oscar focused on immigration law with concerns on refugee and asylum issues. His services included: Permanent Resident/Green card, Citizenship, Deportation Defense cases. He spent most of his day with African, and Latino immigrants even learning to speak Spanish, Amigo, Cómo estás? ¿Cómo está? He was fluent in both English and French.
Oscar’s discipline and determination were reflected in his commitment to his job. Some of his clients have said, “We have not found any professional misconduct for this lawyer.” He was dedicated to representing his clients’ interests in front of the USCIS officer as well as protecting rights in all courts of law. He spent long hours in the office preparing his clients and writing his briefs. He maintained offices in Maryland and New York and made appearance in all his cases. He did this even when he was in pain with his illness. He truly loved serving his clients.
Oscar was a caring and professional person, dedicated to every client’s success. He was a godfather to his clients, family and friends, a great father and a loving husband. After a valiant fight against multiple myeloma, Oscar made his transition on Wednesday, June 27, 2012. He was preceded in death by his father Pa Nformi Ngwang Feih Amorow. He leaves to mourn his loving mother Mama Lucia Amorow, wife: Elizabeth Yembong, dearest, Gwendolyn Mufor cherished daughters, Yvonne and Patience Amorow, darling son, Jaden Mufor Feih Amorow, brothers, Emmanuel Amorow, Kenneth Amorow; sisters Pauline Amorow, Relindis Amorow, Delphine Amorow (Billy), Gwendolyn Amorow; grandson, Courage Amorow; Aunt, Mami Cheche and nieces and nephews: Irene Amorow, Stella Amorow, Geraldine Amorow, Mbong Amorow, Eunice Amorow, Charlotte Nformi, Nadesh Nformi, Lizzette Nformi, Kitralu AalBilly, Julius Amorow, Cornelius Amorow, Jefferson Amorow, Hyacinth Nformi, Lesley Nformi, Elvis Nformi, Ashbel AalBilly, Ange AalBilly, Ark AalBilly and many relatives, friends and Dinga Anthony (secretary).
